On April 30, 2026, NIC's Community Services Division convened a listening session in Washington, DC, with nine executives of community supervision agencies from across the United States. Participants included state probation and parole leaders, paroling authority leaders, a Criminal Justice Coordinating Council director, a Community Criminal Justice Board consultant, and the executive directors of the three national associations active in the community supervision field.
These leaders engaged in discussions with NIC Director Patrick Mirandy and NIC staff that were framed around themes derived from a pre-session survey: workforce capacity, evidence-based practices, resource constraints, and technology. Other topics included Criminal Justice Coordinating Councils, technical violations, aging/other specialized populations, and public perception of community supervision.
The session resulted in recommendations for NIC in shaping its training, technical assistance, and specialized resources to have the greatest impact on the field.
