Message from the Director

The National Institute of Corrections (NIC) is a vital partner in strengthening our nation's correctional system. We provide essential training, technical assistance, and research that directly improves safety, efficiency, and public security within our facilities, including every federal, state, and local prison and jail. Our work helps ensure that your crucial efforts in maintaining order and upholding justice are supported by the best practices and most current knowledge available, leading to better outcomes for everyone.

We provide the tools and resources that allow the nation to see a more effective and secure correctional system, and for the workers in correctional facilities to perform their incredibly challenging jobs with greater skill, confidence, and safety. By investing in professional development, evidence-based practices, and innovative solutions, we collectively make our correctional facilities stronger, reduce recidivism, and contribute significantly to safer communities across America.
