The Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) and the National Institute of Corrections (NIC) are pleased to announce the selection of Patrick Mirandy as the new NIC Director. Mr. Mirandy officially began his leadership role with NIC on Monday, January 12, 2026.
Mr. Mirandy brings more than three decades of leadership experience in corrections, community programs, and statewide operational management. He began his career in 1994 as a Parole Officer in Parkersburg, West Virginia, and advanced through a series of key leadership roles within the West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation (WVDCR), demonstrating a consistent commitment to operational excellence, staff development, and evidence-based correctional practice.
Over the course of his career, Mr. Mirandy served as Unit Manager, Associate Warden, and later Warden of Saint Marys Correctional Center, where he oversaw a medium-security facility, a multimillion-dollar operating budget, and more than 250 staff. His leadership expanded further when he became the first Warden of the Parkersburg Correctional Center, helping establish operational standards and community partnerships for the newly opened facility.
In 2018, he was appointed Chief of Operations for the Bureau of Community Corrections, and in 2023 he assumed statewide responsibility as Chief of Operations for the State Bureau of Prisons and Jails. Most recently, he served as Chief of Staff for the WVDCR, where he advised executive leadership, coordinated agency-wide strategic initiatives, oversaw legislative and public affairs functions, and supported recruitment, retention, and organizational planning efforts.
Mr. Mirandy’s extensive portfolio includes oversight of information technology, inmate records and interstate compact operations, disciplinary and parole hearings, specialized reporting and legislative responses, offender classification, policy development, recruitment, and agency communications. His experience reflects a deep understanding of correctional systems, interagency collaboration, and the operational realities faced by institutions and community programs nationwide.
Mr. Mirandy earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Marshall University and has completed advanced leadership and executive training through the National Institute of Corrections and the West Virginia Corrections Academy. He is widely recognized for strengthening operational consistency, promoting reentry-focused initiatives, and mentoring the next generation of correctional leaders.
Regarding Mr. Mirandy’s appointment, FBOP Director William K. Marshall III stated, “The National Institute of Corrections needs a leader with credibility, vision, and a deep understanding of this profession. Patrick Mirandy is that leader. I have seen his integrity, operational expertise, and commitment to staff and public safety during his service in West Virginia. Pat brings the right standard and the right mindset. I am confident that under his direction, NIC will strengthen its role as the nation’s premier resource for correctional training, innovation, and excellence.”
