The Structured Decision-Making Framework (SDMF) Community of Practice is a topical training and implementation initiative. The tool was designed to improve decision making by paroling authorities for releasing individuals into the community from prisons, enhancing public safety. The tool is built on eight domains (release criteria) and anchored by a validated risk assessment. It includes five phases such as readiness assessment, implementation planning, and training. The training also includes an independent e-course, virtual sessions, and in-person training. The SDMF tool provides a road map for parole board members to reach consistent, transparent, and defensible release decisions.
