Often regarded as the “recreational” library, the full role of the library in corrections is much more. Both institutional and public libraries offer services and resources that facilitate a smooth transition from criminal justice involvement to crime-free living in the community.

The Evidence-Based Librarianship in Corrections (EBLC) Network brings attention to the issues and opportunities affecting the delivery of library services to correctional populations. It combines a focus on evidence-based approaches in corrections with evidence-based library and information practice. Together, these fields inform the development of a correctional library programs that work in concert with local jurisdictions to facilitate positive criminal justice outcomes.
