Cody Scott joined the National Institute of Corrections Jails Division in 2024, bringing with him over 36 years of extensive experience in law enforcement and jail operations. He began his career in Texas with the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office as a jailer in a 350-bed linear facility. Over the years, he gained comprehensive experience across all aspects of the Sheriff’s Office, serving, and supervising in various roles within the law enforcement divisions. Mr. Scott became a Certified Jail Manager through the American Jail Association and is a graduate of the inaugural Jail Leadership Command Academy. As his career progressed, he was involved in the transformation of the jail into a 1,512-bed, podular-design, direct-supervision detention center, which he successfully managed for 13 years before retiring as Chief Deputy in 2023.
In his current role at NIC, Mr. Scott serves as a National Programs Advisor. He supports and manages several key initiatives, including the Large Jail Network, the Staffing Analysis Program, and a Corrections Intelligence Unit initiative. Additionally, he is actively involved in developing a new Tribal Jail Network. He also serves as the NIC liaison to the Small and Rural Law Enforcement Executive Association and provides technical assistance to jails nationwide.
