Ronald Taylor serves as Chief of the Prisons Division at the National Institute of Corrections (NIC), where he leads national efforts to strengthen correctional systems through strategic innovation, evidence-based practices, and collaborative partnerships. In this role, he provides executive leadership for technical assistance, training, and policy guidance supporting correctional agencies across federal, state, local, and tribal jurisdictions. He plays a key role in shaping NIC’s strategic direction and advising Department of Justice leadership on critical issues such as institutional safety, violence reduction, restrictive housing, and recidivism, with a focus on data-driven decision-making and operational excellence.

With more than 35 years of executive leadership experience, Mr. Taylor has led complex correctional organizations at both the federal and state levels. Prior to joining NIC, he served as Commissioner of the Alaska Department of Corrections, where he directed a statewide system and led transformative reentry initiatives, including the establishment of the Alaska Prisoner Reentry Council. Known for building strong intergovernmental partnerships and advancing modern correctional practices, Mr. Taylor is committed to improving public safety outcomes and strengthening the effectiveness of correctional systems nationwide. He holds a Master of Arts in Executive Leadership and a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice.
