The National Institute of Corrections provided Safety Matters end user training on March 25-27, 2025, to twenty-six Arizona Department of Corrections staff in Goodyear, Arizona. Safety Matters provides staff who work with women with the tools they need to effectively manage women in a custodial setting. The Arizona Department of Corrections sent corrections officers, sergeants, program staff, training personnel and management staff to represent a cross section of the agency’s employees working at their women’s facility. A significant number of end users continued their learning by participating in a Safety Matters train-the-trainer class on April 8-10, 2025. The train-the-trainer class will promote smoother implementation of the skills learned in the Safety Matters end user training and encourage sustainability longer term for the agency.
