The National Institute of Corrections (NIC) will soon release the Civility in the Correctional Workplace program package, which contains two exciting new training opportunities: an e-course titled Civility Basics for the Correctional Professional, and a virtual, instructor-led training (VILT) titled Fostering Civility in the Correctional Workplace.

Civility Basics for the Correctional Professional is a one-hour, self-paced e-course designed for correctional staff—including line officers, civilian employees, and supervisors. This course introduces the core concepts of civility, giving participants a strong foundation to recognize what civility is, why it matters, and how it shapes the correctional workplace.

Fostering Civility in the Correctional Workplace is a four-hour VILT that strengthens professionalism, respect, and accountability across correctional settings. The course is built, but it can also be used by requesting agencies or institutions as either a VILT or an instructor-led training. The program materials will be able to be used in either format.
