The National Institute of Corrections (NIC) has been a national leader in the implementation of programs designed to enhance agencies’ abilities to provide services to women under correctional supervision in jails, prisons, and community corrections.
This webinar will provide attendees with an understanding of the basics of effectively working with women, an overview of the working with women curriculum, and an example of an agency’s implementation of the curriculum.
Criminal justice policies, practices, and programs have historically been designed for men and applied to women without consideration of women’s distinct needs. As the number of women involved in the criminal justice system continues to grow, a woman-focused approach that considers the design of programs, practices, or policies that address the specific circumstances of women’s lives, their unique risk and need factors, and research that should guide policy and practice is needed more than ever.
