Conducting Security Audits: Team Applications

 The National Institute of Corrections is accepting applications for four two-person teams (8 slots) to participate in the Correctional Security Audit Training Program, tentatively scheduled for May 2027 and location TBD.  Those individuals will join 18 participants from the host state.

The 36-hour Security Audit program is designed to help participants determine the likelihood of significant safety or security problems, vulnerabilities to injury, escape disruption, and other areas of potential risk in a facility, including inadequate policies and procedures, facility design, and lack of staff training. 

The learning objectives of the security audit process is accomplished through policy review, intensive observation, discussions with staff, and the testing of internal controls. A full description of the training is available in the NIC program catalog at www.nicic.gov. 

The target audience applicants are current supervisors or members of their agency security team.

Applicants registering for the course will need to provide a letter of recommendation identifying both team members by their title/position, and a statement justifying their attendance. 

All documents must be received by the closing date of January 15, 2027
