Virtual Planning Meeting, July 9, 2026 from 1-3pm EST
The Chief Legal Counsel Network comprises individuals who provide legal advice for the fifty state departments of corrections, the Bureau of Prisons, the District of Columbia, and the five specifically identified urban/large jail systems in the United States. Participants discuss current and emerging trends in correctional law, share best practices in their organizations to address legal concerns, and network with others involved in the same work.
The network includes attorneys representing state Departments of Corrections, the Federal Bureau of Prisons, the District of Columbia, and several large urban jail systems. It is a unique forum for legal professionals to exchange ideas, discuss emerging legal issues in corrections, and learn from both each other as well as subject matter experts from academia, private organizations, and other government entities.
To reengage this group, NIC is proposing a virtual Legal Counsel Planning Meeting. This discussion will provide an opportunity for participants to help shape the future direction of the network, identify and prioritize topics, and explore ways we can collectively strengthen professional connections and knowledge-sharing across correctional systems.
To be a part of the network, you must be a Chief Legal Counsel or in a similarly functioned position.
Some NIC programs utilize NIC's Learn Center.
We encourage you to create an account on NIC's Learn Center if you don't already have one.
