In September 2026, National Institute of Corrections (NIC) staff attended the West Virginia Community Corrections conference to present information about NIC programs. NIC Director Patrick Mirandy introduced the four divisions of NIC and highlighted the history of the agency through a video highlighting NIC’s 50-year anniversary. The NIC presentation provided an overview of technical assistance and the various programmatic offerings available across NIC divisions, explaining how NIC works collaboratively with agencies across the justice system. In addition, conference attendees were asked to consider the importance of reentry services for individuals releasing to our communities and the role that “hope” has in facilitating success for the individuals we serve.
Participation in this conference was a valuable opportunity to share the importance of NIC’s work in connecting with professionals who are engaged in community corrections. The West Virginia Community Corrections team demonstrated that they are professionals who are committed to their mission and who perform their work with a spirit of teamwork, accountability and belief in the possibility of change.
NIC staff left the event inspired by the passion and commitment of West Virginia’s community corrections professionals.
