Emergency Management for Correctional Facilities gives participants a strong grasp of the necessity and the process of conducting self-audits of their correctional facilities' emergency preparedness. The goal of this course is to give participants a strong grasp of the necessity and the process of conducting self-audits of their correctional facilities' emergency preparedness in order to enhance emergency response measures. During this 6-hour virtual instructor-led training, participants will develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to: assess a correctional facility's current state of readiness, conduct a thorough audit with a balanced team, consider special population groups during planning, be aware of counterterrorism considerations, and integrate NIMS ICS into their command structure. In-class activities will include small and large group work. Participants will also complete intersession assignments that involve reviewing various case studies and conducting self-audits at their correctional facilities.
The program is designed for correctional facility administrators, supervisors, and staff who have a role in ensuring their facilities are prepared for natural disasters, accidents, and human-caused emergencies. The target audience is intended to be anyone who will conduct emergency preparedness audits regardless of their title or level of experience in the agency. Departmental trainers should also attend the training if they will be training facility personnel on the process.
