Bridging the Bars and Barriers: Advancing MOUD in Correctional Health Systems

Session 1: Foundations First – Understanding MOUD in the Correctional Context

Target Audience: Clinical and correctional staff (joint session)
Duration: 60 minutes

Session Objectives:

  • Define MOUD and explain the FDA-approved medications used to treat opioid use disorder.
  • Describe the neurobiology of addiction and the evidence base for MOUD in reducing recidivism, overdose, and mortality.
  • Understand the public health and correctional imperatives for offering MOUD services, including legal and ethical considerations.
  • Dispel common myths and stigmas surrounding MAT in correctional environments.

Short didactic + myth-busting lightning round + facilitated Q&A

About Travel-Related Expenses

If participant travel is required, authorized travel-related expenses will be reimbursed within 60 to 90 days of the conclusion of this event. Flights are paid for in advance by NIC. Reimbursable expenses include lodging, per diem (meals and incidentals), baggage, parking, and mileage.
